Manbox art project

Project Description:

Have you ever been interested in gaining a deeper understanding of the impact masculinity has on you? The Manbox Art Project seeks to explore the concept of the ‘manbox’ or the social constructs that define how men should experience their own masculinity. Through this art project, we hope to give an opportunity to community members who identify as a man, to explore the various aspects of their masculinities through creative ways. Art as a non-verbal communication tool can help both creators and the audience experience and discover unspoken and even unsurfaced aspects of their lives and pave the way for a change. In this project, participants will be given a neutrally painted wooden box, an art supply kit, and asked some guiding questions. Once folks have completed their boxes, a group conversation with be held where you will have the opportunity to show off your box, its meaning, and your thoughts regarding the process. The manboxes will be collected together to be apart of a large art exhibit demonstrating the vast ways individuals experience masculinity.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE AN ARTIST TO PARTICIPATE, this is a creative hands-on approach to gaining a deeper understanding of yourself.

Project organizers: Willem Tabak, Liza Lorenzetti, Meral Unal.

* At this time we are not hosting any further groups but if you are interested in participating in the future or learning more please contact us or join our mailing list at coordinator@albertamen.com
