Men's Talk: Pashto Community

Alberta Men’s Network (AMN) initiated Men’s Talk, a discussion series with men on gender justice and other social issues that impact the well-being of their families. The discussion forum was co-hosted by the newly incorporated Calgary Pakhtun Association (CPA). Dr. Aamir Jamal, Associate Professor, at the Faculty of Social Work shared his research findings with the Pashtun community men and created a meaningful conversation on gender justice and girls’ education. Dr. Aamir’s research is focused on Pakistan’s Pashtun community. Therefore, Noreen Mahmood, (an MSW practicum student with AMN), engaged CPA and other Pashtun community members in organizing Men’s Talk. 23 men from the CPA and the Pashtun community attended the forum and were highly engaged in the conversation and CPA members showed great interest in the future collaborative activities that promote healthy families and prevent domestic violence. Participants of the Men’s Talk forum were invited to AMN’s next event, Honouring Fathers and Daughters and well attended the event along with their daughters.
